David Copperfield
Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield has been brought to life by Academy Award-winning film director Sam Mendes (American Beauty, 1917) and Audible UK though the medium of sound. This classic tale is now available as an Audible Original audio drama and features a star studded cast, including United Voices Richard Armitage as Mr Murdstone and Jessie Buckley as Clara Peggotty.
Originally published in serial form between May 1849 through to November 1850, David Copperfield is the first of Dickens’ novels to be written entirely in the first person. It is also highly biographical, drawing heavily from Dickens’s own life; a story of a young man’s adventures who goes from a deeply unhappy, impoverished childhood to a succesful novelist. Featuring a variety of vivd characters, including his tyrnanical stepfather, My Murdstone (Richard Armitage) and Clara Peggotty (Jessie Buckley), the housekeeper, Dickens’s use of his own experiences has created one of the most enduringly popular works, filled with tragedy and comedy in equal measures.
In turning this masterpiece of classic fiction into an audio drama, a new demographic of people will get to experience the joy of this beloved tale.
